In general, free zones are community customs spaces, which are separate from the rest of the territory, into which all kinds of goods are shipped. As long as they remain under special terms — there is no storage time limit — products are not subject to import duties, internal taxes (VAT or excise tax duties) or commercial policy measures.
The Barcelona Zona Franca Customs Authority (ZFA) is at the service of companies with international trade relations who wish to leverage competitive tax advantages.
It is owned by El Consorci and stands out as a strategic and distinctive element of the business since its inception. The tax-free zone covers an area of 160,000 m2, between the main area (C/ Número 5) and the secondary port platform area at Álvarez de la Campa, in the port of Barcelona. In total, the Zona Franca Customs Authority offers for lease 84,000 m2 of warehouses, 9,000 m2 of office space and 3,000 m2 of lockers.
A coordinated security force comprising the Civil Guard and a private security company ensures safety 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
The ZFA is a highly attractive logistics area thanks to its size, its activity and its ideal location near the port of Barcelona and the airport, as well as its proximity to the railway freight station and road networks. It is also the only European free zone represented in the steering committee of the World Free Zones Organization (WFZO), and a member of various international associations.
