This new Barcelona district geographically borders the Paseo de la Zona Franca L’Hospitalet, the port and the Fira.
El Consorci de la Zona Franca will have 160,000 m² of floor area throughout, mainly in sector 10 and 14. In the other sectors (6, 8, 12 and 13) its ownership is minimal.
The redevelopment of the La Marina del Prat Vermell district is the latest major urban transformation projects in Barcelona.
750,000 m2 will become urbanised, an area equivalent to more than forty blocks of Barcelona’s Eixample district. It will offer more than 11,000 new homes, 38% for private housing and 35% for subsidised housing, amounting to housing for 30,000 people in an environment where 17% of the land will be landscaped and garden areas.
The rest of the project will comprise economic activities and facilities.
Development in sectors
Due to its large size, la Marina has been divided into 14 sectors to be developed in stages.
In sector 10, urban development works and the first residential building are already finished. Urban development for sector 14 was planned for completion by the end of 2015.
The entire area is expected to be developed by 2022, approximately.
